On the night of August 20, 1857, the Dunbar smashed at pieces at the entrance of sending harbour sending all but one passenger and crew to their deaths. It was a gale-lashed night making it difficult to see the Macquarie Light on South Head. Nearly 30 years later another ship the SS Ly-ee-Moon, met a similar fate right under the lighthouse at Green Cape, South Of Eden. The stories are linked by lighthouses and coincidence and are told here in a clear, non-academic style.
